2011 was full of emotional events the world around, and our community responded at unprecedented levels. From natural disasters to historical celebrations, entertainment milestones to tearful goodbyes, our community spoke out like no other community can — artistically, creatively, and emotionally. In many ways, last year marked the final chapter of a few eras, opening the door to new beginnings for 2012. Let's take a look...

Hey, it's been a while since I've had a journal entry. You might be wondering what I've been up to lately.
Some of you might already know that I had lost my job at Meteor Games (Island Paradise, Neopets: Treasure Keepers, Serf Wars). In fact, everyone who worked there lost their jobs, because the company went under. The social gaming scene is a bloody and fierce place.
Despite the fall, it was truly a wonderful place to work, with the coolest most talented people, and I was very fortunate to have been a part of it. I walked away with nothing but good experiences and lifelong friends.
But not to worry! I have since found a new home at Kona

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

Should Today's Technologies Inspire?
We got to interview a visionary futurist with an eye on technology about what would inspire today's comic book writers to create our next superheroes with knowledge of real technological and scientific advancement.
You never know when it’s going to happen – that otherwise quotidian moment when you suddenly realize your entire thought process has just been tripped up and cast down a cerebral rabbit-hole destination unknown. Little did I know that what began as a typically pleasurable lunch with spyed (https://www.deviantart.com/spyed) and makepictures (https://www.deviantart.com/makepictures) during the San Diego Comic-Con last year
The Bizenghast Adventure Game! by sadwonderland, journal
The Bizenghast Adventure Game!
So I was talking with Clint Krause, the fellow who produced the original Bizenghast Adventure Game, which was a role-playing manual set in the Bizenghast universe, published in 2008 by TOKYOPOP.
It had a very limited run and is damn-near impossible to find nowadays (the only copy I've ever personally seen is the one I own!), so I asked Clint if he could hunt around for the original digital print copy of the book, so we could make it available for free download online to fans! Hopefully he'll be able to locate it, and much BZG-themed roleplaying will be available for your tabletop gaming pleasure very soon!

Emerging artists, we want you at Comic-Con 2012!
Join us in Artists’ Alley!
DeviantART is once again heading to Comic-Con International: San Diego! This year, we’re offering six scholarships to emerging comic artists to attend San Diego Comic-Con 2012 as guests of deviantART.
Who should apply?
We're looking for artists who have always dreamt of going to Comic-Con and who want to make the most of the experience. Applicants must be serious about attending Comic-Con and must be willing and able to come to San Diego, California between July 12 through 15.
The chosen artists will spend one day at Comic-Con, where they will be able to show their portfolio in Artists' Alley. When
Ask any artist about “emptiness” and they’ll tell you about the constant recurring nightmarish emptiness they must face down almost every day as a part of their vocation: the blank space that they must fill. Whether he’s a painter facing a blank canvas or she’s a poet facing a blank computer screen, the blank space awaiting transformation at the hand of the artist can be the loneliest and cruelest place on earth.

The Fairy Tale, A Lifelong Resonance
A thousand years tradition of scaring children at bedtime continues for children of all ages. News of the discovery of 500 “new” fairy tales collected over 150 years ago [link] in Germany and locked away in a forgotten archive has me thinking about the enduring importance of these narrative treasures in the lives of human societies worldwide. My worry, have fairy tales been marginalized by modernism?

Legend's Japanese cover, BEA in NYC
First of all, let me explain my love for the Japanese cover of Legend. Legend just came out in Japan, and the cover for its edition is below:
Um. Oh My God. The artist for this cover is the great Tatsuyuki Tanaka-san, the artist behind the Akira anime film. Yes, THAT Akira. And I am so in love. He even added in the red streak of blood in Day's hair! Mr. Tanaka-san, you are amaaaaaazing. Thank you!
And secondly, the promotion for Prodigy (Legend #2) is officially starting. I'm off to New York City on Sunday to attend BookExpo America, where my publisher Penguin will be giving away the first advance reader copies (ARCs) of Prodigy. I'
